A survey created by the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Communication Studies COM 395 class reveals the most popular footwear brand used in the local surf shops. Another survey was conducted to measure UNCW students and their favorite summer footwear brands.
Wilmington, NC is a heavily populated coastal community where the waves are the most infamous attraction. Our findings further connect the student population and local population within the Wilmington area. Walking around the city, our surveys measure the most popular footwear brands.
KEY FINDINGS:
- Reef Sandals and Rainbow Sandals tied for most popular shoe brand within Wilmington surf shops
- Vans Footwear is the second most popular behind these contenders
- Within the student survey, Rainbow Sandals are also the highest vote for favorite summer footwear brand
- The second highest in student opinion was Vans Footwear
Participating surf shops include Runyon Surfboards, Aussie Island Surf Shop, Hot Wax Surf Shop, 50 South Surf Shop, Sweetwater Surf Shop, 17th Street Surf Shop, Permanent Vacation, RECON SURF, Surf City Surf Shop, and more TBD.
These findings highlight how Rainbow Sandals and Reef Sandals connect with Wilmington’s culture. These brands are known for their comfort and reliability. The findings show that the Wilmington community cares about their convenient and trendy styles. Students, Wilmington locals, and tourists gravitate towards the same brands.
